Hello, from Mariah!
Mariah Hughes is a stay at home mom, bird owner, and rehabber. She studied English at Indiana University and spends much of her free time writing essays and short stories about her experiences working with wild and domestic birds. She has two birds– a cockatiel, Babazee, and a budgie, Flapjack.
I’m Lavender and I’m the creator of It’s A Birb Thing! I’m 19, a freshman college student (who’s studying marketing!), and a long time lover of birds!
I remember my very first favorite animal that I saw as a child…Seagulls! I still have a love for them and sneak food when nobody is around to yell at me when I visit a beach! Ever since then, I’ve always had some form of love for birds (and all animals)!
While I don’t have any birds (yet), I’m slowly starting the process to adopt cockatiels from my local sanctuary. My comic is based off the experiences I’ve had with the cockatiels (and other birds) both at my local bird rescue and with other encounters of the birb kind!
Some of my favorite bird personalities include cockatoos! I think they have the silliest personalities, and can be some of the friendliest birds! If I had the skills, I’d love to adopt one named Scooby from my local sanctuary. He’s the sweetest bird with the strongest claws I’ve ever seen!
When I get free time, I work on my redbubble (which is full of bird art) and run an etsy shop that sells jewelry! I’m also hoping to open another online shop soon featuring items related to my comic! I hope everyone enjoys their time here!
I’m Sherri – the – Writer, and I’m the proud “mommy” of three birds: sun conures Zack (age 17), Chloe (age 14), and a Quaker, Bubbles (age 3). I’ve had birds since my 10th birthday, when I begged my parents to get me a parakeet after taking care of one for a friend while they visited family out of state. This wasn’t easy in a home with a mother and brother who were cat lovers, but we managed to negotiate having a cat and three parakeets for a period of time. It seems that 3 is my magic number when it comes to birds! I’ve had seven birds in my lifetime: four parakeets, plus the two sun conures and Quaker I currently have.
In addition to being a bird “mommy,” I’m also married to my college sweetheart for 19 years, where we live on family land in Columbia, South Carolina. I work full time as a program assistant in professional licensing, and am also an indie author writing science fiction, mystery, and inspirational non-fiction. In short, I type a lot, and sweep and vacuum a lot of bird mess! But I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I look forward to seeing your tweets, and working with my pals here on BirbObserver. But enough about me: it’s your turn, so share those pictures, stories, questions, tweets. Don’t keep us hanging!
